Call of Duty drama?!? Nooooooooooo. Well, it appears that next year’s entry (yes, this year’s has not even been announced but it is almost a lock to be Modern Warfare 4) is in jeopardy but from a developer standpoint. As you know (or maybe you do not), three studios develop Call of Duty, rotating on a three year cycle. This year (that Modern Warfare entry) will come from Infinity Ward. Next year’s entry should be from Sledgehammer and Raven Studios who previously released Call of Duty: WWII. Apparently, tensions between the teams have lead to those two teams now supporting Treyarch for Black Ops 5, which will take place during the Cold War and will include a single-player campaign unlike Black Ops 4. Sources say that the company is split in that some are worried about a two-year cycle instead of a three to develop while others are fine with this change. Black Ops 5 could be a cross-gen title with PS5 and the latest Xbox on the horizon especially if both get a fall release when Call of Duty typically releases.
